Gibson Les Paul Standard '60s Figured Top Electric Guitar - Honey Amber

I've been a Fender guy for most of my life and some years back finally got a hold of an American-made Strat (American Pro 2). Recently I've been very interested in the last pause because of the humbucker sound I hear on recordings. Ran across a local Guitar Center promo where this particular Les Paul Standard was marked down significantly and I thought to myself while I will never run across this again so I made the purchase without regret. It is by far the smoothest guitar I've ever played. The sustain is amazing and I am so thankful that it pairs nicely with my Marshall DSL 40 tube amp.

A late review, but I traded a batch of guitars to get my first real Les Paul. I played a 50's reissue and 60's reissue, and felt that for me, the 60's reissue played better. As time moved on, and with more playing, and with comparing to my large batch of 'beater' guitars, it does play very, very well. However, the stock pickups sound...thin?...trebley?...compared to my Duncan's that are in some other project guitars. Currently, I have two PRS SE single cuts with Duncan Distorions in the Bridge and Duncan Pearly Gates in the neck; both sound AMAZING in an EVH 5150iiis, as well as my older Fender Bassbreaker. Comparing the LP to the other mutt/parts projects with various Duncans and Dimarzios, again, it plays/feels great, but I will be swapping the pickups out for likely Duncans. However, I'll be adding one more of these (different finish) to the collection. Chibsons are fun per se, but when you start to have no room, you realize that the Chibsons will become parted out and target practice, while the USA Les Paul is held close for the playing time.

I was able to buy a 60's Figured Top Les Paul Standard and I totally love it! It is nice and smooth, the tone is great, very comfortable and I can't wait to play it again.

I've had this Les Paul for a couple of years - it's a 2021 model. It's a Les Paul so you get the classic LP growl. Pros - the bourbon burst top is 5 stars. It's figured but not too much. I love the neck shape, it's thick enough but not the thicker/traditional Les Paul neck and it's perfect for me. Tuners and bridge are stable and the guitar stays in tune. Cons- 3 of the neck inlays are already coming unglued. I have not gigged the guitar and it's been babied and I've still had to reglue the inlays. This shouldn't happen with a guitar that costs this much. The burstbuckers are very muddy and provide little/no note definition. I've recently rewired it to 50s wiring and changed the caps but the pickups were still muddy. I put in some pearly gates and I like the sound now. I know some of this is personal preference but I have a hard time understanding why these pickups sound this dark/muddy considering I play through a Deluxe Reverb (a pretty bright amp).

The guitar is amazing. It is everything I hoped it would be.

I bought this in September of 2024. I've had time to bond with this instrument. I've wanted a Les Paul for many years, since I was 14 years old. I walked into GC and hoped to try out a Les Paul Standard just to get a feel for how Gibson is currently making them. The guitar I bought right then and there had some headstock blemishes from hanging on the wall. It was significantly discounted. I do not care about a couple chips that I colored with a sharpie. This guitar is otherwise flawless in my opinion. I've been playing it for about 7 months and tweaking the action and intonation to suit me. This guitar is capable of super low action, intonates perfectly, stays in tune and is super easy to bend strings. I love the tones! The Les Paul is better than I can imagine. It had been a long time since I bought a brand new guitar. There were some "settling in" with truss rod adjustments as the guitar became acclimated to it's new home and with the nut getting used to my choice of string gauge. Don't forget to be patient about this stuff. I was rewarded with a rock solid guitar. I can rely on this guitar. I could not be happier about everything about this grand piano of electric guitars! Well worth the price of admission.
