Fender Player II Jaguar Electric Guitar - Rosewood Fingerboard, Birch Green

First... I love Fender and always have, I even have a couple G&L's..! I'm mostly a bass player and of course the renowned P-Bass was my first and I eventually moved into the Jazz Bass and recently I picked up a Meteora Player Plus Active Jazz Bass, I got the Ocean Blue/Transparent Blue or whatever shade of blue that they chose..?! I chose it because I felt that was the more classy yet beautiful one of the bunch, though I am a little partial to the Silver/Black version and I have to admit that I do dig the Neon Green/Black also...! Anyway back to the guitars, and I almost forgot that I also recently picked up the British Racing Green Jazzmaster, and I also had the Oxblood Tele but had to return it due to some major issues with the wood towards the back of the bridge... for some odd reason, most likely it was a bad ply of wood and it actually looked exactly like one of my old skateboards, how the bottom of your board starts to look after many board slides and hitting launch ramps, and when you flip it over you can start to see what we always called,'stress cracks', where the wood starts to form creases or minor cracks that run up and down between the trucks (axles on a skateboard), you will also notice them in the nose area and the tail... depending on what kind of rider you were! So that was an unfortunate issue because I got a great deal on that specific guitar, but maybe I know why now!? And I just recently picked up that latest Fender Jazz Bass with the single mini hummbucker in the middle of the body which has a gold foil strip across the top of the pickup... and I have to say, the bass is very minimalist but it is one of the best Fenders I've ever owned! Perfect action, perfect intonation and great sustain and I was pretty surprised at the performance of just the single mini hummbucker..! No switches, no extra knobs or push/pulls and it's passive, so no dealing with batteries or an extra switch... just a straight forward single mini hummbucker with one volume knob and one tone knob and that's it! And like I said... I have a feeling it's going to make it out of the closet for jamming much more than the Meteora! So that's my thoughts on Fenders and I would still love to someday pick up one of these Jaguars..! But I just wanted to agree with Frank from NH.... he is right about dropping hundreds of dollars on a BRAND NEW guitar and when they told him it would be weeks AND extra money...! I would have laughed as loud and obnoxious as I could right in front of the whole store and then said... I'll tell you what PAL, you can either get this friggin guitar in tip top shape starting right here right now, or I know plenty of places that would be more than happy to take my money and put a pair of new strings on along with a setup and intonation... JUST BECAUSE I SPENT A GRAND ON A NEW GUITAR OFF THEIR RACK!!! Sorry Frank, sounds like you ended up getting the high school flunky for a service rep..! I hope they did good by you!! Remember GC reps... the customer is who keeps you employed, so stop acting stupid and being lazy or you're going to end up joining the employees at MF... Oh yea that's right I forgot.... they don't have any stores for employees to work at!!

Fender made some excellent improvements to their budget Mexican line. They sound and play far better the the Classic Player and Player I series that they replaced. The pickups sound great and the Mustang/Staytrem style bridge is rock solid. The 9.5 radius neck is also a better choice for most guitarists ,rather than the 7.25 radius that the vintage series features The no frills setup makes this a great gigging guitar. The rhythm circuit is cool but hard to utilize on the fly.

The neck is a high quality material, the pickups sound great, and the rosewood helps to a unique tone. This guitar was a huge step up from my squire stratocaster!

Right off the shelf its really good, plays well and my pickups are really good, only complaint is that the colors are a little iffy but honestly a good build.

How would you react if you bought a brand new car and the dealership acted confused/indignant when you asked if it was all ready to go and if there was a tech on staff to make sure the alignment was correct and there was oil in the engine? Most people wouldn't even think to ask, assuming that a brand new car is in fact ready to drive. They certainly would not accept that it would be 2 weeks and cost additional money to get the brand new car functional. Guitar Center told me they'd be happy to put me in the queue and have their "luthier" look at my brand new guitar within the next few weeks at their standard labor rate. So, out the door I went. Well I was having intonation and tuning stability issues almost immediately. Luckily I found a wonderful local luthier who pointed out all the things completely wrong with this guitar that should absolutely not be present -- remnants of glue and oxidation on the fretboard; oscillating tool marks on the fretboard from shotty sanding in the factory; the 2 pickups putting out different output volume; low and high E strings totally out of whack at the bridge....Let's not get started on this terrible bridge design that will go out of alignment with a slight bump of the hand which completely screws up the intonation. $75 later, the guitar is set up and working properly. Next step will be a custom mod to get a Bigsby style bridge to replace the current abomination. I love the tone and playability of the guitar. In that regard I give 5 stars. The 1 star rating is specifically for Guitar Center letting brand new guitars leave their store without even a 5 minute check over. This is absolutely unacceptable and terrible customer service. Never again.
