Contemporary Digital Pianos Overview

Description

The Yamaha P-45 88-key portable digital piano combines realistic weighted key response, simplified controls and compact portability in an instrument designed for practice, learning and everyday playing. Built around Yamaha’s Graded Hammer Standard keybed and Advanced Wave Memory stereo sampling, the P-45 delivers natural piano response that supports both developing technique and recreational playing. Ten onboard voices, dual mode functionality and onboard reverb and chorus effects provide flexibility for different musical styles, while USB MIDI connectivity supports integration with computers and music software. Its lightweight cabinet and streamlined layout make the Yamaha P-45 well suited for apartments, classrooms, studios and portable playing setups.

Graded Hammer Standard Keybed for Natural Piano Response

The Yamaha P-45 features 88 full-sized keys with Graded Hammer Standard action designed to recreate the response of an acoustic piano. Lower keys feel slightly heavier while upper registers respond with a lighter touch, helping players develop proper finger control and technique across the keyboard. Adjustable touch sensitivity settings allow players to tailor response for different playing styles, while the full 88-key range supports everything from beginner exercises to more advanced repertoire. Its weighted key response makes the P-45 suitable for both developing players and experienced pianists looking for a compact practice instrument.

AWM Stereo Sampling and 10 Onboard Voices

Yamaha’s Advanced Wave Memory stereo sampling gives the P-45 detailed piano tone with natural sustain and dynamic response. Alongside acoustic piano voices, the instrument includes electric piano, organ and string sounds for expanded musical flexibility. Dual mode layers two voices together for combinations such as piano and strings, while onboard reverb and chorus effects add spaciousness and tonal depth. With 64-note polyphony, the P-45 maintains consistent playback during layered passages and sustained performances.

USB MIDI Connectivity and Built-In Practice Features

The P-45 includes USB MIDI connectivity for integration with recording software, notation programs and compatible music education apps. A built-in metronome supports rhythm and timing development during practice sessions, while Duo mode divides the keyboard into two matching pitch ranges for side-by-side lessons and instruction. Headphone connectivity also allows quiet practice without using the onboard speakers, making the P-45 practical for shared living spaces and late-night playing sessions.

Compact Design for Home and Portable Use

Weighing approximately 25 lb. with a streamlined cabinet design, the Yamaha P-45 is easy to move between practice spaces, classrooms and performance setups. Its compact footprint allows placement in smaller rooms where a traditional acoustic piano may not be practical while still maintaining a full-size keyboard layout. Built-in speakers provide straightforward sound reproduction without requiring external amplification, and sustain pedal support allows players to incorporate traditional piano techniques into daily practice and performance.

A Yamaha Portable Digital Piano for Practice and Performance

Combining weighted hammer-action keys, AWM stereo piano sampling and practical USB MIDI connectivity, the Yamaha P-45 portable digital piano provides a focused playing experience for beginners, students and experienced musicians alike. Its compact design, realistic keyboard response and straightforward interface make it well suited for lessons, home recording, practice and portable performance use. For players looking for authentic piano feel in a streamlined format, the Yamaha P-45 balances essential performance features with practical everyday usability.

Best Digital Piano it it's class!

I love this digital piano, it has the feel and sound of an expensive grand piano not to mention the other sounds that are included. This is my second Yamaha digital keyboard, I still have my first Yamaha 61 key and this is an upgrade. I've tried all the others and this is the best quality and value. Yamaha makes great keyboards and have excellent customer service if you need them. I've never had a problem with my first one that's about 10 years old and runs like new and they provide learning tools to customers on their website after you register.

Not exactly best for my application

I got it because my kid wanted to learn keyboards. It is a basic piano, but a little too big and heavy. There are smaller and lighter ones out these that would be better for this application. So this is not a great fit for us.

The P-45 88-Key digital piano is a great investment for beginners; however, once you progress it lacks the functionality to migrate further.

  • Yes, I am very happy with my keyboard. I would buy again and

Is the sustain pedal that's included sensitive to intensity? (I can't remember the technical terms for it. Basically, is the pedal just an on/off switch or can it recognize if it's pushed only halfway and respond accordingly?) If not, can the keyboard recognize that kind of input if a third-party pedal is used with it?

    Open Reply - Gear-Support
    1) No, it isn't. 2) It will accept the FC4A Sustain Foot Pedal, FC3A Sustain Half Pedaling, FC5 Sustain Pedal.
