Description
The 1940s Rickenbacker (often spelled "Rickenbacher") "Electro" Model NS Lap Steel is a historically significant, post-WWII instrument produced from roughly 1946 to 1952. Highly prized by collectors and slide players, this specific model features a distinctive stamped sheet-metal body, a striking silverburst (shaded gray) finish, and an iconic pre-war style horseshoe pickup.
The Body: Built from stamped metal with a classic "silverburst" or shaded gray lacquer finish. Its compact shape was often compared to a ukulele. The Pickup: Equipped with Rickenbacker's famous electromagnetic horseshoe pickup. The large magnets wrap over the top of the strings, providing a warm, high-output, mid-century tone with exceptional sustain. The Logo: Typically features the "Rickenbacher" name spelled with an "H"—a spelling used on mid-century models to honor co-founder Adolf Rickenbacker.Musical Legacy: These lap steels were core to the signature sounds of 1940s Hawaiian music, western swing, and early country music.
