Good budget kit

I purchased this as my first kit on a Black Friday sale (12/2/25) for $350 + tax. There were no Simmons kits set up in the store, so I was kind of just going out on a limb with this. So far I have been pleasantly surprised with this kit. Set up was relatively easy (once you actually get everything unboxed) and the instruction manual was quite helpful. I do wish they would provide a little more information about tuning sensitivity, threshold, etc. values out of the box as I had some issues with the hi-hat being extremely quiet. Tightening the cymbals also seems to give a better result with the triggers, but it's not as realistic compared to an acoustic kit. In the store near me I played on the Roland TD316 and the Alesis Strata Prime. The quality is much higher on those kits, but they are also $2000+ setups. For a beginner or intermediate player getting started on drum set, I think this is a good deal. I was even able to get a double bass pedal working with this after tuning the sens/threshold values. I appreciate the Simmons app that is included with this, and that is actually works on my Android phone (Melodics is iOS only though.) The app makes it much easier to tweak settings on the fly. There are some bugs still (such as the youtube feature not really working). A few times I tried to access the Simmons website for drivers and the website was down for multiple days. Another huge benefit is Bluetooth connectivity. The drum module is always scanning bluetooth so all you have to do is open your phone and search for Titan 50, and you can stream bluetooth audio from your phone or PC to the drums. This is great for just looking up tutorials or songs to play along to on youtube. Some thoughts on specific aspects of the kit: Module 9/10 -- No issues so far, great job on this part of the kit. The phone holder is a nice touch, and pairs well with the app and Bluetooth features mentioned previously. Various kit sounds included, custom kits, recording, USB out, MIDI, and line outs. Not much more you can ask for on a budget kit. This is a very minor nitpick, but it would be great to have a way to transfer the internal user MIDI recordings on the module to a PC--as far as I know this is not possible. Rack 8/10 -- Pretty sturdy, comes with velcro ties and clips for cable management which was a great addition. Drum key included to move things around. A pair of sticks included in the box which was nice. I found it a bit janky to adjust certain things to the right angles like the snare and the cymbal mounts, but not a huge deal. Some kind of headphone mount would be nice. HH Pedal 6/10 -- Thoughts on this might change as I get more familiar with the kit, but out of the box the HH Pedal feels a little cheap. Feels more like a piano sustain pedal than a real hi-hat pedal. I found it hard to trigger splashes vs. clamps. The pedal needs to be pushed all the way in to get the closed hi-hat sound. Some tinkering can definitely be done here though with the trigger settings in the app to make it feel a bit better. But obviously this is not a real HH pedal or stand, so for what it is I can't complain too much. Hi-Hat / Ride / Crash Cymbals 4/10 -- Similar to above, the cymbals just don't really feel like cymbals. This is a common complain of ekits not just this one. It does seem to have zones for edge vs. bell hits but they are kind of inconsistent and the volumes produced are hard to get matching the dynamics of my playing. I would say the experience of playing the Roland HH & cymbals is much better, but obviously those are higher end kits. I'd be interested to try the metal cymbals from Simmons and also wonder if they could produce a nicer hi-hat like the roland with a real stand and pedal. Finally some of the crash cymbals are supposed to have a choke sensor which is a nice touch, but it's really hard to use because you have to grab the very center of the cymbal, and the audio cuts off immediately. Not at all like an acoustic choke. For a beginner and for the price of the kit these are fine, but there are much better electronic cymbals out there. This is where you can definitely tell this is a budget kit. Toms 8/10 -- For the price of the kit you get FOUR WHOLE TOMS. That alone is worth a good rating. And the toms are actually decent which surprised me. Nothing really to complain about here. They are dual zone so you can hit the rims on these for a different sound. Snare 6/10 -- The snare is OK, if you play on the higher end kits you will definitely tell the difference, and for fast doubles or buzz rolls sometimes it doesn't really pick those up very well. 10 inch dual zone, you can do rim shots which is nice. Cross stick doesn't really work but you can kind of do it if you put your whole stick on the rim (if it's on the mesh it will register as a normal hit). The mesh heads on the snare and toms are feel decent to play and have a good rebound. Again, not quite as good as higher end kits, but they are not bad for the price. We'll see if they hold up over time. Kick 7/10 -- The kick works well out of the box. It is wide enough for a double kick. Relatively sturdy on carpet. No real issues so far. Kick Pedal 5/10 -- The included pedal feels pretty cheap. It works but you'll probably want something better. I purchased a used double bass pedal and it works great with this kit once you turn up the sensitivity a bit and lower the threshold values. #sweepstakes
