Description

When MESA/Boogie introduced the Dual Rectifier Solo head in 1992, it gave heavy guitar players a new kind of high-gain voice: deep low end, scooped mids and harmonic-rich saturation with an unusually responsive feel. More than three decades later, the MESA/Boogie 90s Dual Rectifier Standard returns that focused two-channel design to production, built in Petaluma, California, with the original Standard Dress of black chassis, chrome speed knobs and polished aluminum Diamond Plate. Four MESA 6L6 power tubes deliver 100W of Class A/B output, while Clean, Variable High Gain Vintage and Modern High Gain voices cover a broad range of Rectifier character. Selectable tube or silicon-diode rectification and the BOLD/SPONGY Variac power switch let players fine-tune attack, sag and compression, while a tube-driven series effects loop supports modern pedal and rack-based rigs. It is a faithful return to the look, feel and commanding gain structure that made the original Dual Rectifier a defining amp of its era.

Two Independent Channels With Flexible Voice Selection

The 90s Dual Rectifier Standard retains the streamlined two-channel layout of the original Solo Head, with independent Gain, Treble, Middle, Bass, Presence and Master controls for each channel. Channel 1 combines a clean voice with Variable High Gain Vintage mode, while Channel 2 provides Vintage High Gain operation. MESA’s Channel Style/Cloning switch expands those options by allowing the channels to share the available high-gain voices, including the amp’s Modern High Gain setting. This approach makes it possible to configure contrasting sounds around clean, warmer vintage-style saturation or tighter modern gain without adding the complexity of a larger multichannel design. The result is a direct, purposeful interface that gives each channel its own identity and controls.

Selectable Rectification and Variac Power Feel

A key part of the Dual Rectifier experience is the ability to adjust how the power section responds beneath the fingers. Two 5U4GB rectifier tubes provide tube rectification with natural sag, compression and a more yielding attack, while silicon-diode rectification creates a tighter response with greater immediacy. The two-position BOLD/SPONGY Variac power switch adds another way to shape feel: BOLD delivers the amplifier’s full, authoritative response, while SPONGY reduces operating voltage for increased harmonic content and a more elastic character. Together, these controls let players move from firm, percussive rhythm response to looser, more compressed gain while preserving the essential Rectifier sound.

100W Tube Power With Alternate Tube Compatibility

Four MESA 6L6 power tubes drive the 90s Dual Rectifier Standard’s 100W Class A/B power section, providing the headroom and low-frequency authority needed for high-gain rhythm work, lead playing and larger-stage performance. The amp’s Bias Select switch also supports EL34 power tubes, giving players the option to shift the power section toward a different response and tonal character. MESA’s maintenance-free fixed-bias design keeps operation straightforward with supported tube types, while fan cooling supports consistent performance during demanding rehearsals, sessions and shows. Whether set for cleans with substantial headroom or saturated sounds with forceful attack, the power section gives the amp the robust feel expected from a full-size Rectifier head.

Tube-Driven Effects Loop and Flexible Outputs

A tube-driven series effects loop provides a dedicated place for delay, reverb, modulation and other effects that benefit from placement after the amp’s gain stages. The global Output control becomes active when the loop is engaged, allowing convenient overall level adjustment, while external switching connections support control of channel and loop functions. A Slave output with dedicated level control adds another option for expanded live and studio routing. For cabinet pairing, the 90s Dual Rectifier Standard provides two 4-ohm outputs, two 8-ohm outputs and one 16-ohm output, accommodating compatible single- and multiple-cab setups.

A '90s Rectifier Design Built in Petaluma

The 90s Dual Rectifier Standard brings back the original visual identity that helped make the amp instantly recognizable throughout the 1990s. Its Black Taurus vinyl, black chassis, polished aluminum Diamond Plate grille, black handle and leather corners recreate the Standard Dress presentation, while the steel chassis and marine-grade Baltic birch enclosure provide a durable foundation. Beneath that unmistakable exterior is the original Dual Rectifier formula: two channels, substantial tube power, flexible rectification and a range of clean and high-gain voices shaped around feel as much as gain. For players seeking a classic Rectifier platform with focused controls and unmistakable '90s styling, the MESA/Boogie 90s Dual Rectifier Standard delivers the original Solo Head concept in a newly built amplifier.
