Is the Focusrite Scarlett 16i16 4th Gen good for recording a full band?
The Scarlett 16i16 can support multitrack band recording with its analog and digital I/O, though larger microphone setups may require additional preamps and ADAT expansion. Its flexible routing and expandable connectivity make it well suited to studios that need to record multiple sources simultaneously.
Can I expand the Scarlett 16i16 with additional inputs?
Yes. The Scarlett 16i16 includes ADAT optical and S/PDIF digital I/O, allowing compatible external preamps, converters and digital equipment to expand the available recording connections.
How does the Scarlett 16i16 compare to the Scarlett 2i2?
The Scarlett 16i16 provides substantially more connectivity, including additional line I/O, MIDI, ADAT, S/PDIF and dual headphone outputs. It is designed for studios integrating multiple instruments and external hardware, while the Scarlett 2i2 provides a more streamlined I/O configuration for simpler recording setups.
The best recording sessions are the ones where creativity flows uninterrupted, with every instrument, microphone and piece of gear ready the moment inspiration strikes. The Focusrite Scarlett 16i16 4th Gen USB-C audio interface is designed to serve as the central hub for modern studios, combining premium audio performance, flexible connectivity and intelligent workflow tools in a compact desktop format. Featuring two ultra-low-noise remote-controlled microphone preamps, six line inputs, dual Hi-Z instrument inputs and expandable digital I/O, the Scarlett 16i16 adapts easily to evolving recording setups. Advanced features such as Auto Gain, Clip Safe, re-engineered Air modes and 122dB dynamic range help capture every performance with exceptional clarity, while Focusrite Control 2 provides convenient remote control from anywhere in your recording space.
Professional Preamps With Intelligent Recording Tools
The Scarlett 16i16 features two of Focusrite's cleanest and most detailed microphone preamps, delivering up to 69dB of gain for everything from low-output dynamic microphones to sensitive condensers. Auto Gain quickly establishes optimal recording levels, while Clip Safe continuously monitors incoming signals and automatically adjusts gain to prevent clipping during unexpected peaks. Together, these intelligent recording tools help preserve performances while reducing time spent managing levels.
Flexible Connectivity for Expanding Studios
Designed to accommodate a wide range of instruments and production equipment, the Scarlett 16i16 offers dual Hi-Z instrument inputs alongside six balanced line inputs for synthesizers, drum machines, keyboards and outboard processors. Integrated MIDI I/O simplifies communication with external controllers and hardware instruments, while ADAT and S/PDIF connectivity make it easy to expand your setup with additional inputs and outputs as your studio grows. This flexibility allows the interface to evolve alongside changing recording needs.
Console-Inspired Sound and High-Resolution Conversion
Two re-engineered Air modes provide additional tonal shaping inspired by classic recording consoles. Presence mode enhances upper frequencies for greater clarity and articulation, while Harmonic Drive adds subtle saturation and midrange richness that helps vocals, guitars and acoustic instruments stand out in a mix. Combined with high-performance converters offering up to 122dB dynamic range, the Scarlett 16i16 captures recordings with exceptional detail, depth and accuracy.
Comprehensive Monitoring and Workflow Control
The Scarlett 16i16 gives every output its own independent mix, allowing separate monitor, headphone and line output feeds for artists, engineers and external hardware. Dual custom-designed headphone amplifiers provide powerful, detailed monitoring for a wide range of headphones, while Alt Monitor switching enables quick A/B comparison between two sets of studio monitors. Focusrite Control 2 further streamlines operation by allowing remote control of routing and settings from desktop and mobile devices.
Built for Modern Music Production
USB-C connectivity, loopback functionality and an extensive software bundle make the Scarlett 16i16 equally suited for recording, production, livestreaming and content creation. Included software such as Ableton Live Lite, Pro Tools Intro+, Cubase LE and the Hitmaker Expansion bundle provides a complete production environment right out of the box.
