Description

Marking a first for DW's Design Series, the limited-offering Exotic Mapa Burl snare drum introduces an exotic wood finish to the lineup. Built around a 10-ply European birch shell, this 14x6.5" snare features DW's patented HVLT (Horizontal Vertical Low Timbre) grain-orientation technology, delivering pronounced attack, a punchy, warm fundamental and controlled resonance. A highly figured mapa burl veneer beneath a natural matte lacquer finish gives the drum a distinctive appearance, while professional-grade hardware—including a MAG throw-off, low-mass mini turret lugs, triple-flange hoops and True-Pitch tuning—provides dependable performance. Combining the tonal character of birch with DW's specialized shell construction, this limited Design Series snare offers a versatile voice for live performance and studio recording.

European Birch Shell Delivers Punchy, Warm Snare Tone

At the heart of this snare is a 10-ply European birch shell incorporating DW's patented HVLT grain-orientation technology. By combining horizontal and vertical grain orientations, this construction helps shape the shell's tonal response, producing a warm, focused fundamental with ample attack and controlled resonance. The 6.5" depth adds body to the drum's voice, allowing accented backbeats to carry weight while retaining the articulation needed for more detailed playing. Whether laying down a steady groove or moving through dynamic fills, the birch shell provides a balanced combination of punch, warmth and definition.

Exotic Mapa Burl Finish Meets Professional DW Hardware

A highly figured mapa burl veneer distinguishes this limited Design Series snare, with a natural matte lacquer finish showcasing the wood's distinctive grain patterns. Two rows of DW's low-mass mini turret lugs complement the shell's appearance, while triple-flange hoops and True-Pitch tuning provide the hardware foundation for precise adjustments. The MAG throw-off allows convenient snare engagement, and factory-equipped Remo heads complete the playing setup. Together, these components bring DW's professional hardware features to a snare that combines an exotic exterior with the practical demands of regular playing.

A Distinctive Design Series Snare for Stage and Studio

With its combination of focused birch attack, warm fundamental and controlled resonance, this snare offers a versatile tonal foundation for drummers working across different musical settings. Its 14x6.5" configuration provides a substantial voice, while the HVLT shell construction and DW hardware support responsive playing and precise tuning. The limited exotic veneer finish adds visual character without departing from the Design Series' performance-oriented approach. For drummers seeking a snare that balances tonal definition, professional hardware and distinctive aesthetics, the DW Design Series Exotic Mapa Burl snare brings these qualities together in one instrument.
