CRANBORNE AUDIO N8 C.A.S.T. Distribution Hub and Audio Over Cat 5 System

Turn ordinary network cable into a flexible analog audio infrastructure that can reach across a studio, stage or installation. The Cranborne Audio N8 C.A.S.T. Distribution Hub and Audio Over Cat 5 System converts eight analog inputs and eight analog outputs on TASCAM-wired DB25 connections into four bidirectional C.A.S.T. ports, allowing shielded Cat 5e, Cat 6 or Cat 7 cable to carry balanced audio as far as 330'. Each C.A.S.T. connection transports two input and two output paths simultaneously, making it possible to send sources toward the control room while returning monitor audio over the same cable. Completely passive operation requires no power or configuration, while support for 48V phantom power allows compatible condenser microphones and active DI boxes to remain part of the signal chain.

Four C.A.S.T. Ports Distribute 16 Channels of Analog Audio

Four dedicated RJ45 C.A.S.T. connections provide a total of 16 audio paths, allowing up to four compatible breakout devices to be positioned wherever inputs and outputs are needed. Pair the hub with products such as the N22H to place microphone, instrument and headphone connections near performers while keeping the interface, mixer and other studio equipment in another room. Because every connection is bidirectional, recording signals and monitor returns can share the same network cable, reducing the need for separate analog looms running between control rooms, live rooms, vocal booths and performance areas.

Flexible Routing Supports Individual Monitor Mixes

Front-panel output routing switches determine what each connected C.A.S.T. device receives, providing useful flexibility when distributing cue audio. A stereo signal can be sent to multiple locations, or separate stereo feeds can be routed when performers require different monitor mixes. This makes the N8 useful not only for relocating recording inputs but also for building distributed headphone and monitoring systems around a studio or stage. Higher-performance Cat 6 and Cat 7 cabling is recommended when improved crosstalk performance is required.

Passive Design Simplifies Studio and Stage Cabling

With no power supply, digital conversion or network configuration required, the distribution hub provides a straightforward way to extend balanced analog connectivity using widely available network cabling. Its rugged metal enclosure is suited to stage and studio use, while the compact format can be tucked into an equipment rack or mounted with the optional OBDRK001 Half Rack Kit. Compatibility with Cranborne Audio C.A.S.T.-equipped products including the N22, N22H, Camden EC1 and Camden EC2 allows the N8 to become part of a larger modular cabling system, giving engineers a practical way to relocate I/O and monitoring without installing conventional multicore analog snakes.
