Behringer S32 32-Input Digital Stage Box: FAQ

What mixers are compatible with the Behringer S32?
The S32 is designed for compatible AES50-equipped digital consoles, including Behringer X32 and WING systems and compatible Midas mixers. Check the specific console's AES50, firmware and routing requirements when planning a system.

How many channels can one AES50 connection carry?
Each AES50 SuperMAC connection can carry up to 48 channels in each direction at 48kHz. The S32 itself provides 32 analog inputs and 16 analog outputs, allowing those signals to be transported between the stage box and a compatible digital console.

Can the Behringer S32 be used for front-of-house and monitor splits?
Yes. With compatible X32 systems, the S32 supports stage-split workflows that allow its input signals to be shared between separate front-of-house and monitor consoles.

Can multiple Behringer S32 stage boxes be connected together?
Yes. The S32's dual AES50 ports allow compatible stage boxes to be cascaded for expanded I/O and more complex digital audio systems. Available channel capacity and routing depend on the connected consoles and overall AES50 configuration.

The Behringer S32 32-input digital stage box brings extensive analog I/O to the stage while connecting to a compatible digital console through a single AES50 network connection. It provides 32 Midas-designed, remotely controllable microphone preamps and 16 servo-balanced XLR outputs in a rugged 3U steel chassis. Dual AES50 ports support console connection, cascading and stage-split workflows, while Ultranet, dual ADAT outputs and two AES3 outputs expand integration with personal monitoring systems and digital equipment. MIDI I/O and USB connectivity round out its system-management capabilities.

Thirty-Two Midas-Designed Preamps With Remote Control

Each balanced XLR input uses a Midas-designed microphone preamp that can be controlled from a compatible AES50 console. Engineers can adjust gain and phantom power from the mix position while keeping analog microphone runs short. Sixteen servo-balanced XLR outputs return signals to powered speakers, amplifiers, monitor systems and other analog destinations.

Dual AES50 Supports Networking and Expansion

Each AES50 SuperMAC connection carries up to 48 bidirectional audio channels over shielded CAT5e cable at distances up to 330 feet. The second port can cascade compatible stage boxes, while automatic stage-split operation supports separate front-of-house and monitor-console workflows with compatible X32 systems.

ADAT, AES3 and Ultranet Extend Routing

Dual optical ADAT outputs provide 16 channels of digital audio, while two AES3 outputs feed compatible digital processors and system controllers. Ultranet connects Behringer P16 personal monitoring systems and compatible Turbosound loudspeakers, while MIDI I/O supports integration with compatible MIDI equipment. A USB Type-B port provides connectivity for system updates.

24-Bit Conversion and Low-Latency Performance

The S32 operates at 24-bit resolution with 44.1 or 48kHz sample rates and specifies 1.1ms of networked input-to-output latency when used through compatible console processing. Cirrus Logic converters support detailed multichannel audio reproduction, while front-panel status indicators provide immediate confirmation of AES50 synchronization, phantom power and system activity.

Three-Rackspace Construction for Mobile and Installed Systems

A Mute All function simplifies stage patching, while the universal 100–240V power supply accommodates regional power standards. The rugged all-steel 3U enclosure is designed for protected touring racks, theaters, houses of worship and permanent installations. For engineers building expandable digital live sound systems, the Behringer S32 provides substantial stage I/O and flexible AES50 integration in a single rackmount unit.
